“Cash Crop” wins national SPJ Sigma Delta Chi award for investigative reporting

Commercial Appeal investigative reporter Marc Perrusquia and I won the Society of Professional Journalists Sigma Delta Chi Award for investigative reporting for our project “Cash Crop,” which showed that a law originally intended to protect family farms and rural open space now shelters the rich and famous from taxes.

I’m pretty proud of the project, and it’s nice to have it recognized. Check out the stories and interactive elements here, and if you’re an Investigative Reporters & Editors member, you can read all about I did the data analysis at Uplink.
