Yikes.

No good news for Scripps, parent company of the Commercial Appeal.

It’s bad: a loss of $19 million last quarter, whereas the company earned $44.7 the same quarter a year ago.

Among every other source of revenue that fell, classified revenue fell more than 31 percent.

Damn you craigslist, for being so convenient. I searched that site for boats in the greater Memphis area last week and got dozens of hits; I searched the CA’s classified and found just one (waaaay out my price range, btw). I just searched the CA ads again a moment ago and found none.

The CA also announced more layoffs ahead, with some sort of reduction by March 12. That’ll be the second round of layoffs since October, just after I started freelancing. Scary times.
