Public utility power outage map

mlgw_logo_tiny2Just a quickie: Some tornadoes touched down in and around greater Memphis today, knocking electric service out for a lot of folks. Damage reports are still coming in.

I’m relatively new to the area, so this is probably old news for some folks, but it warrants a mention.

Props to Memphis Light, Gas and Water for its map of power outages in the area. It’s a Google-based map with overlays of graduated colors indicating number of customers without power. Click on a polygon to get the exact number and pull up status reports for that area. It updates every 15 minutes automatically, or you can click to refresh.

Oh, and you can check out the utility’s employees’ salaries here.
